I have been hovering and posting here for years. Even in the periods between campaigns. I have enjoyed the debates and insights. Some very smart people have shared their wisdom on this site. However, lately it has become a place of partisan bickering. Some of us seem to be Bolsheviks and some of us (Hillary supporters) seem to be Mensheviks. This has been the plague of every progressive movement since the French Revolution. It seems that ideological purity, or slavish devotion to one candidate, appears to be the order of the day.
I don't believe that this site should serve as anyone's campaign headquarters. I always conceived of it as a home for progressives to
share ideas and critiques. But if this site, and its owner, elect to use it as a marshaling yard for one candidate's political train, at the expense of the greater movement, than this site will marginalize itself, whoever wins the campaign.
Now I am all for removing the current quasi Fascists from office. But internecine squabbling and fratricide is not the path to victory. This year
we have an embarrassment of riches as regards the candidates. I like them both. And both are infinitely better than what we now have.
I am very upset about the current vilification of the Clintons. As if Hillary and Bill are somehow anathema to the "movement". I also find the cult-like fervor for Barack equally disquieting. I assure Hillary is no she devil and Barack will not heal people with his touch. Both of them are good
credible progressive candidates.
Mark my words, the Republicans, who by rites, should be trailing at this point by 30-40 points are competitive in most places. All we need is for one faction or the other to sit on its hands and we will be shedding more precious blood in the years to come.
Please people understand that without unity, we are doomed.
