The Connecticut senator, whose own presidential campaign failed to draw enough attention to propel him past the first contest in Iowa, is expected to announce his endorsement of Obama this morning, according to a Democratic official close to Dodd. He'll then campaign with Obama in Ohio.

Update [2008-2-26 5:31:33 by baudelairien]: A story from yesterday that may shed some light on Dodd's intentions in speaking up now, "Dodd hopes Democratic race is wrapped up soon":
"It’s obviously getting to a point where people are speaking pretty loudly," Dodd told reporters. "Eleven contests. My hope is that we’ll get closure on this pretty quickly."

Dodd also could help Obama with Hispanic voters. A fluent Spanish speaker, Dodd served in the Peace Corps in a rural village in Dominican Republic from 1966-68 and has had a strong interest in Latin American affairs throughout his career.

Update [2008-2-26 10:11:42 by baudelairien]: This story on John Tierney (MA-6) is interesting. I didn't know he had endorsed Dodd. Most of the other reps who initially backed Dodd have already endorsed Obama: Anna Eshoo (CA-14), Xavier Becerra (CA-31), Linda Sanchez (CA-39), John Larson (CT-1), Rosa DeLauro (CT-3), Chris Murphy (CT-5), Patrick Kennedy (RI-1) are all on the record for Obama. Sam Farr (CA-17), Joe Courtney (CT-2) and Tim Ryan (OH-17) have yet to endorse another candidate. (Tip of the hat to Pragmatic Left and bawbie for adding Sanchez and Kennedy to this list. The list at Dodd's campaign site confirmed these two, and added a few more -- although Tierney was not listed.)
