House Judiciary sub-committees are meeting today on a variety of interesting topics. The Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties wants to talk to Kenneth Blackwell (former OH SoS) about voter suppression, and the Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law wants to talk to John Ashcroft about independent corporate monitors, but both have declined 'invitations' to testify voluntarily.
First, the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties just voted 6-4 to issue a subpoena to Blackwell for:
...testimony and related documents at a hearing before the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties regarding voter suppression.
The oversight hearing on voter suppression is on now (click on the "view live webcast" button).
Second, the Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law was supposed to meet at 1:00 pm EST to consider issuing a subpoena to Ashcroft for:
...testimony and related documents at a hearing before the Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law regarding deferred prosecution agreements and independent corporate monitors.
but within the past 15 minutes that meeting has been cancelled. The immediately-following oversight hearing on the "Implementation of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Special Counsel Regulations" is still on the schedule, with Patrick Fitzgerald as one of the witnesses. (same link as above, it doesn't look like c-span will have these hearings)
