A couple of days ago, I posted an action diary urging readers to go to an online tool enabling people to send letters to the editors of local and national papers fighting back against the smear tactics of AP "reporter" Nedra Pickler concerning Barack Obama's patriotism.
I'm writing now to report on the results, and to ask you to follow up.
First, the statistics: Collectively, more than 12,000 letters were sent to newspapers all across the nation. That's nothing to sneeze at. We're already starting to see some of those in online editions of papers across the country.
Follow below for more!
Perhaps just as impressive, 49% of the letters you sent were customized--almost half of you actually took the time to be creative and express your personal thoughts on the issue, rather than just go with the prepared letter included in the tool. That's awesome.
Not only that, our action a couple of days ago hit mainstream: your efforts got recognition from CQ, and hit the frontpage of Digg. Not too shabby, I say!
But there's more you can do!
We'd love to see your work, so here's what we'd like you do to:
If your letter from this campaign got published in an online edition of a newspaper, we'd love to see it! We'll be re-publishing a selection of letters here for everyone to see the results of effective netroots and grassroots action.
send an email with the subject line: "show your patriotism LTE" to:
firedoglakeaction @ gmail . com
Include the link to your letter, and let us know which one it is if the link contains multiple letters.
We're looking forward to featuring your work, so tell us what you did! Thanks for everything you do!
