Someone blogged last night about the vitriol that has permeated the pages of this website...from this blogger's perspective, the bulk seems to be directed at Hillary Clinton.
Campaigns are tough, and it's natural that we each cheer our preferred candidate. But I find it troubling that here on the Daily Kos where Obama is the clear favorite, Hillary hatred is as violent as it is on the right wing blogs. I find it troubling that Obama supporters are so willing to demonize her, even if it makes them sound no different from Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter.
Why hasn't Obama inspired his supporters to be nicer and as inspirational as he is? There is nothing inspirational about one group of supporters vilifying another candidate in the same party. There are even those with access to media who are threatening to stay home or vote for McCain if Hillary gets the nomination for no other reason than they would feel disenfranchised.
Sure Obama has won more states. But what about Hillary winning all but Illinois among the populous states? Doesn't that count for something? When Al Gore won the popular vote in 2000, Democrats were livid. There are still many states to go, and if you count the vote in Florida, Obama's lead is slim. There are still numerous states to go. What's wrong with playing it out so that the millions in the Democratic Party who have voted for Hillary don't feel disenfranchised?
It's the delegate count that matters, Obama supporters say. The super delegates should vote the way of their people. With this logic, Kennedy, Kerry, and Patrick should all be supporting Hillary. So should all the super delegates in California, Texas, New York, Ohio, New Jersey, New Mexico, et al. The fact is the current DNC rules allow for super delegates to choose independently. Outside of Floridia and Michigan (two very large states that will be important in November and to keep them from feeling disenfranchised) being allowed "do-overs," it isn't right to only want to change the rules that benefit your candidate.
I invite Kos readers to keep their heads and not bash Hillary Clinton while the nomination process plays out. It only serves to feed the Republican hatred of all liberals and progressive. It feeds into the storyline that we're a bunch of hypocrites.
