I have posted a bit regarding hillary's remarks on obama's religion...
My main point being...if saying 'as far as I know' is an error...she made a human error after being badgered by reporter who had already received an answer to the question...
Here is the q & a.
"You don't believe that Senator Obama's a Muslim?" Kroft asked Sen. Clinton.
"Of course not. I mean, that, you know, there is no basis for that. I take him on the basis of what he says. And, you know, there isn't any reason to doubt that," she replied.
first words out of her mouth...'of course not'
why would someone say 'as far as I know' when discussing someone's religious beliefs...
perhaps because you can only know as far as you know...unlike George Bush most of us are modest about our ability to look into someone's heart and know what is there...
But that is old stuff...though the conventional wisdom on the evil of 'as far as i know' is now set in concrete..
I raise the old news again because I wonder how much attention this remark of Obama's deserves....note that the reporter raises the relevant question....
In the San Antonio press conference, Obama said that, unbeknown to his campaign, the Canadian consul in Chicago had contacted Goolsbee, "and he went there as a courtesy."
He said Goolsbee never communicated any different position on NAFTA to them and "said exactly what I said on the campaign trail." Obama has asserted in appearances and a recent debate that the agreement has hurt many American workers and should be renegotiated.
But at the close of the press conference, the senator appeared to shift his explanation, saying that his campaign adviser "had what we thought would be a casual conversation" with Canadian officials - suggesting that the meeting was known to the Obama team.
How can you think a conversation will be casual when you don't know it is going to take place. Evil..duplicitous...or maybe just a slip due to annoyance for being asked repeatedly the same thing over and over in an attempt to get a 'gotcha' .
Must be the latter, since I haven't seen diaries come scrolling down the list on this issue.
