Short diary that I know will attract a bunch of self-righteous assholes...but I'm serious about Obama 08. A lot of you here are more serious about your complaints about Americans, America, and white people. I agree with most of those plaints, but I have embraced Barack Obama's message and am looking forward to the future now.
I also think that you have no reason whatsoever to believe Senator Obama shares your radical beliefs.
I know that there are some here who are indignant about many of America's shortcomings, and about the way in which power and wealth has continued to be entrenched amongst the mostly white upper classes. And that's fine and fair, too...
BUT, that's not what this election is about--and the more Clinton, McCain, and Obama supporters are able to characterize Obama's inclusive and forward-looking message as one of resentment, the weaker he will become as a candidate.
This isn't about Rev. Wright, but about all of those Obama supporters who--despite all the speeches and texts provided by Obama to the contrary--believe that he speaks for them: the radicals, the anti-capitalists, those who care more about condemning the past than improving the future, those whose anger is stronger than their hope...
To those, I say: Obama is NOT just your candidate--or, rather he IS your candidate, too...and mine, and my slightly confused and afraid conservative parents, and my Orthodox Jewish friend's...and my rich Wall Street neighbors. Sorry if you're disappointed, but all the evidence is that Obama loves this nation and believes not only in the best of each of us Americans, but in our potential as a whole nation to become, once again, a role model to the world.
