I've read a lot of comments on a lot of different blogs and news articles, and one thing I keep hearing is how this is all a "political speech" aimed to prevent Sen. Obama's nomination from spiraling out-of-control. I hear how it's all a lie, how he doesn't really believe what he wrote, all these smears, and I can understand it up to a point.
I can understand how people have been fed lies for their whole lives by one politician after another; how it's become so hard to let their hearts go, to let their souls believe. But, I stand here today and say that this is the man to believe in, not just for his speech, but because his speech made Michelle Obama cry.
Per the ABC News article:
The candidate's wife, Michelle Obama, sat in the front row during the speech. She was very emotional and could be seen crying backstage after the speech was over, given the subject matter of her husband's oratory.
It's that simple. It wasn't just a speech, it wasn't merely words - it was pure unadulterated truth from a source that we have rarely heard truth from before - a politician. He spoke so deeply from his own heart, his own soul, that he made his very wife cry from listening. And she didn't cry from some place behind him on the stage, where all the cameras were watching - no, she cried backstage, where she was away from most people's notice. Her tears weren't the tears of a politician's wife, begging forgiveness for her husband's sins; they were the tears of a woman who knows discrimination and who for the first time in her adult life is proud of American politics, because America has voted this man into the public eye.
The question isn't whether or not Barack was lying - he wasn't, the real question is, knowing the truth, are we prepared to stand up for it?
Updated: Thanks for recommending this diary. Here is a picture of Michelle reacting to the speech that itsolivia posted from sfgate.com
Update II: Just so you know, the man crying to the left of Michelle is Marty Nesbitt, the Obama's best friend. And according to Hawkjt, the woman to Michelle's right is Valerie Jarrett.
