You know, I'm a day late and a dollar short on the whole Wright thing. I haven't even seen the youtube clips. I guess I just thought, who cares what his preacher says, I don't agree with half the shit most preachers say, and I also thought Wright had some legitimate points when you got to the context of it and you look at the historical rise of christianity in the African American Community. But what has seemed the most absurd to me is when I hear people say, "there are kids in that church!" I hate the child card.
I don't know if any of the conservative indviduals, have seen Jesus Camp, or whether or not they've ever seen the children dragged out to college campuses by those crazy traveling preachers to call women and other college students whores and sinners. There are examples all over the freaking place.
I'm an atheist, so it's not even just these radical cases that freak me out. The whole indoctrinating kids into religion thing is a little unsettling to me. I remember going to church, and there is only so much you can gloss over. We tell children they will burn in hell if they sin. That's pretty freaking scary for a kid to understand. And a lot of the stuff as is a lot of stories in the bible. I let my daughter watch 'the prince of egypt' and I was appalled at all the violence.
So, it's a day late and dollar short, but I had to bitch about this line of attack on the Trinity United Church of Christ because it's one of the most absurd assertions being repeated. "There are KIDS listening!", "What abot the kids?". More hypocritical BS.
