As probably one of the few libertarians here on DailyKos, I feel compelled to finally make a post.
I realize I may not agree with most of you on a variety of points, but in this instance I'd like to pose a question: why the inconsistency from both the left and the right on the role of government?
As probably one of the few libertarians here on DailyKos, I feel compelled to finally make a post.
I realize I may not agree with most of you on a variety of points, but in this instance I'd like to pose a question: why the inconsistency from both the left and the right on the role of government?
Government is not trusted to provide economic regulation by the right. Government is not trusted to protect and honor civil liberties by the left. Where do people get off choosing to trust the government on the economy but not trust the government otherwise? Or to trust the government on things like foreign policy and civil liberties but not something like the economy?
I suppose a lot of it has to do with your particular worldview, and mine. But my opinion is that the government is, in general, working for a very few elites and not for the common man. I'm interested in your basic political philosophy ... not your typical talking points as to why you think the government SHOULD help, but why you think practically it's a good idea.
