He won them in Iowa but lost them in Ohio and Texas. How can he change this?
A new poll has just come out from North Carolina. Obama's up 51-38. Great news. I want to see this below paragraph change, however:
Clinton leads 49% to 37% among white voters (62% of likely Democratic primary voters). Obama leads 78% to 17% among African American voters (34% of likely Democratic primary voters).
I guess being just 12 points behind isn't too bad. But, I am a bit disturbed that Obama is continually losing the White vote by double digits in states like TX and Ohio. There have been other states where he badly lost the white vote as well.
Mississipi, Alabama and South Carolina don't count of course due to southern politics.
What about Texas and Ohio though? What about the swing states?
I don't expect him to win the white vote in most states but I'd like to see him losing by no more than say 6-7.
What can he do? I have several ideas. Here they are. How about you?:
- Pick someone like Jim Webb, a patriot with war credentials for VP. This will help in the general.
For the primary thouugh, all I can think of is:
- Hold town hall meetings and one-to-one conversations with whites
- Have a major new white surrogate hit the campaign trail with him.
- Present a new stump speech aimed at the economic concerns of working class whites. "I feel your pain."
Those less than stellar ideas are all I can think of. This white vote just disgusts me. The fact is that it exists though.
