Via a Kleeb for Senate press release:
HASTINGS, NE - U.S. Senate Candidate Scott Kleeb today accepted the unanimous endorsement of the Nebraska AFL-CIO. Representing over 48,000 working men and women across Nebraska, the group pledged their support to Kleeb for his commitment to middle class families and economic security.
"Middle class workers in Nebraska need a voice in Washington, DC," said AFL-CIO State President Ken Mass. "Scott Kleeb is a leader families across Nebraska can count on to do the right thing for them and their loved ones, and we're proud to offer our support to his campaign."
"I'm proud to have the support of so many working Nebraska families," said Kleeb. "At a time of falling wages and growing trade imbalances, restoring our economic security begins with strengthening the middle class. Through tax relief for families, trade assistance adjustments, and investment in green collar jobs, we can forge a stronger middle class."
The Democratic primary for Nebraska's Senate nomination will be held May 13th. For more information, please visit www.scottkleeb.com.
This an important pick up for Kleeb -- in fact it could be one of the biggest rivaled only by a potential endorsement from the Omaha Federation of Labor.
The press release does not make it clear whether the endorsement is just for the primary of the general election, so I gave the Nebraska AFL-CIO a call and spoke to President Ken Mass who told me that the endorsement is just for the primary and that once the general election candidates have been chosen they will carefully review both and make a decision.
It is a distinct possibility that many unions in Nebraska might swing for presumptive Republican nominee Mike Johanns. That has less to do with a pro-union agenda and more to do with the personal relationships Johanns has built over the years. Still -- it is sigificant that the AFL-CIO is backing Scott because it means that they are not buying Raimondo's change of tune on labor issues.
Scott also raised about 135K online this quarter which put him in the top ten in the country! Pretty impressive. Help Scott keep up that momentum by donating today.
