and I did not for for Clinton either (nor for McCain, should that require mention) - I'm French!
but sometimes (often), I wonder whether it matters.
McCain deserves to be the next president - the one who is going to be hit by the combination of the financial crash, peak oil and the destruction of the US Army in Iraq.
I know all the arguments about actually having someone competent in the White House, as opposed to a hack, to face these problems, and I understand the importance of Supreme Court nominations over the next 4 years. And I know the arguments against Naderist relativism ("they are all the same") - it's quite possible (if not certain) that Al Gore would have reacted in a smart way to 9/11
But, but, but.
The next president will inherit a horrible mess. He/she we will be blamed for the unfolding disaster, it's human nature, even if he/she actually helps soften the blows.
But you see this as Americans. I'm not a US citizen, so I can afford to be flippant.
More to the point, I see that all candidates support Israel mindlessly. I see that they support the US military (the biggest problem) just as enthusiastically. I see that they will all continue "divide and rule" policies in Europe. I see that they will play into the "New Cold War" (just check how many of the 'Top 100 intellectuals are pro-war). and I'm not even mentioning Iraq or, God forbid, Iran. They also seem suspiciously keen on coal power, the biggest actual threat to peace and human survival in the foreseeable future.
So, no, I don't really mind who will be the next president. It will be hell in any case.
