How can Obama’s "poor choice of words" with regard to bitter rustbelt voters be seen as equivalent to Clinton’s thrice repeated lies re. sniper fire? The media treats these as equivalent "gaffes."
No question that the coverage of Clinton has frequently been misogynist, but there are ways in which gender stereotypes have clearly worked to her benefit.
Imagine if Obama in order to boost his national security credentials had lied repeatedly about coming under sniper fire and then videos emerged showing him calmly strolling onto the tarmac. His campaign would have ended that day. No male candidate could possibly have gotten away with lying about his personal courage.
After all these years of being lied to by our president, can’t we make the fundamental moral distinction between an impolitic phrase and a downright lie?
