Here we go again, and again, and again. The Official Johnny McCain Fan Club, otherwise known as the US media, has been joyfully throwing made-up, irrelevant shit at Barack Obama for two months now, praying it will stick. No surprise there. In order for any Democrat to win, they will have to defeat both the Republicans and its abused, but ever-loving, loyal spouse, the US media.
The latest shit salvo comes from the Very Serious Roger Simon of the Politico. This is the same guy who thinks Johnny McCain is the authentic-est dude you could ever meet, conveniently ignoring minor stuff like Johnny's double-talk on torture, the GI Bill, the Bush tax cuts, campaign financing, his personal taxes and the Iraq War.
Why in hell would Rogey focus on these dopey issues when he can turn his keen intellect back to the Wright matter? Simon, in his latest dropping entitled "Obama can't bluff past Wright issue" dutifully returns to the Wright topic.
Trying to portray Obama as some kind of ingenius fake appears to now be the Right Wing's and American Media's primary method of operation to destroy Obama's candidacy. The Right Wing says this because they know they can get their mouth-breathing base to actually believe Barack Hussein Obama is a dangerous Muslim who, ironically, attends a scary Christian church. The Media says it brings up the Wright issue only out of "concern".
Its painful, but lets analyze Roger Simon's musings:
When Obama heard the "first snippets" that Wright believed the U.S. government "lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color" and that the United States deserved to be attacked on Sept. 11 because "we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Obama then decided to give Wright the "benefit of the doubt"?
Does this make sense? When Obama heard these "snippets," why didn’t Obama call Wright immediately and demand an explanation and express his concerns?
Why in hell would Obama "demand an explanation" from Wright? Wright, his former pastor, said what he said, and obviously stood behind his statements. Was Wright supposed to say "Sorry Barack, the Metamusil wasn't working that day"? The important thing is what presidential candidate Barack Obama thinks. Did he agree or not? Obama, in his speech, stated clearly that he opposed Wright's newly publicized incendiary statements, but had not heard them before. Obama said he had heard Wright make other controversial statements, but did not feel those particular statements were inflammatory enough to change churches.
Obama has an explanation, but it simply makes no sense: "Because if I had wanted to be politically expedient, I would have distanced myself and denounced him right away, right? That would have been the easy thing to do."
So let me get this straight: Obama did the wrong thing, because he didn’t want to appear to be doing the politically expedient thing, which was the right thing.
Uh, no. Obama was doing, according to him, the right thing at the time. In other words, things change over time, a concept difficult for nitwits like Roger Simon to understand. Obama is stating he did not want to denounce Wright the person, when Wright's worst statements, from years ago, were first publicized. Wright married Obama and his wife, baptized his kids, etc. He was not eager to denounce Wright himself at this point. Not throwing a long term friend under the bus immediately for some dumb statements is using good judgment.
So what caused Obama to finally say this week that he was "appalled" by Wright? It was not Wright’s attacks on America, apparently. It was Wright’s attacks on Obama.
Wright went before the National Press Club on Monday and said Obama was distancing himself from Wright only because "politicians say what they say and do what they do based on electability, based on sound bites, based on polls" and that Obama "had to distance himself, because he’s a politician."
With that, Wright had gone too far. Accusing the United States of inventing HIV and saying we deserved to be attacked on Sept. 11, well, Obama could give Wright the "benefit of the doubt" on that. But attacking Obama himself? That Obama could not forgive.
Rush, sorry, I mean Roger, is here accusing Obama of being a self-serving phony, whose ego is primary. In reality Obama was distancing himself from Wright at this point (remember things can change over time), after Wright's appearance before the National Press Club, because Wright, at that appearance, underlined and emphasized his past idiotic statements. A few pulled statements from the past Obama could tolerate and forgive, but emphasizing that divisive rhetoric in the here and now, showed a different side to this pastor, and Obama, exercising fair judgment, accordingly put space between himself and Wright.
Ending this, I fantasize about a fair world, where "journalists" like Roger Simon would devote 10% of the time they use on self-created stupid bullshit like this, to issues that actually affect Americans outside of the Mercedes-Benz corridor in DC. What a wonderful world it would be...
