Hillary's divisive campaigning in the past few months have shown that there are some latent problems within the democratic party. By so clearly polarizing democrats between herself and Obama's camps, she has shown a very bright spotlight on what some of those problems are and in some cases who those problems are.
First. It has shown me that, sadly, there are far more racists than I ever would have imagined in the democratic party. I, now, believe some democrats have tolerated minorities the same way the GOP has always treated fundamentalists. As a useful, but unfortunate voting bloc to pander to during elections.
Second. It gives us a clear view of which politicians are on the side of old-style politics. The failed 50+1 campaigning policies. And who are perfectly happy screwing the voter as long as they can fool the voter into thinking they like being screwed.
And Thirdly. Hillary's campaign has utterly exposed the media to independents. Those independents who, I believe used to be heavily swayed by the media, now realize-- both due to the media over playing it's hand and the proliferation of alternate sources of news; the Internet-- that they have been played for fools. And the only ones left believing the media are those who actively want to and those who have no choice. Either because of age and fear of technology, or lack of access to technology.
But how does this help Obama?
Obama now has a fairly clean source of supporters to draw from in restructuring the democratic party. His supporters do not include racists-- or at least those that are are heavily pragmatic-- dead end campaign tacticians and politicos that are, mostly, free from corporate lobby corruption.
If Hillary's supporters and the 'old guard' had hedged their bets instead of going all in. They could have merged with Obama's campaign and corrupted it from the inside. But instead they chose to try to destroy it and have complete power over Hillary. But now that Hillary has failed, they have nothing, and no 'in' with which to pull the strings of power.
My guess is that they actually did make offers to Obama, which he refused. Which is why they went so 'nuclear' on him.
In any case. Obama has a chance to clean up the democratic party and I think he'll do it.
