Let's get every group with a stake in a Democratic victory in November on board to stop these sore-losers' threats!
I've come close to putting up some diaries here now and then over the past few months. But life sometimes gets in the way. Others beat me to the punch at times. Issues that seem hot get replaced by other issues that seem hot. And so it goes. So, no diary. Until now.
Many of us have, I'm betting, grappled with the question of whether we'd support the Democratic nominee if our preferred candidate did not prevail in the primaries and we felt the reasons were unjust. This happens in dark moments when the latest "Outrage of the Day" is front-and-center and our candidate has taken a beating for reasons we feel are, well, just outrageous. The record will show that I have succumbed to the "I won't vote for Hillary" once or twice when I was furious about some nonsense emanating from her or her surrogates, but overall I've always managed to keep the Supreme Court in mind when I or others have started feeling that the candidates, or the party that is supposed to be doing its all to see to it that either one succeeds in November, has been less than admirable.
But I will defend to the death (well, figuratively speaking, anyway) my and others' rights to passionately defend our candidate, whomever that might be, against slimy, dangerous tactics, including when those tactics emanate from another Dem. That applies to supporters of Hillary Clinton as well as my preferred candidate, Barack Obama.
All that said, I think it's time that the time has come to start getting very aggressive in demanding that this talk of bolting the party or sitting the November election out if Clinton is not the nominee has to stop right now. I'd like to see people and groups with nice, fat budgets especially let Senator Clinton know that if she wants to see them again or eat lunch in their town again, she needs to find a way to put an end to this. Why hasn't she crushed this movement by her supporters?
So I'm asking everyone who sees this diary to contribute the name and contact information for organizations that have a stake in a Dem getting elected in 2008. And I need some of you to offer proposals for how to marshal our forces to bring to bear our demand that this stuff stop and how to gather collectively to request that the organizations we identify lean on the Clinton campaign to make her supporters knock it off permanently. Unlike my candidate, I'm not a community organizer, so others may have more ideas on how to do this than I do, but for now, at least, I'd urge all of you to contribute names, organizations, and contact information. (And, at the risk of being labeled a shameless self-promoter, I also encourage you to rec this diary as I think this effort is incredibly important.)
THIS HAS GOT TO STOP.
