John Edwards electrifying speech endorsing Barack Obama may prove to be a watershed moment in the 2008 presidential election campaign. While Senator Obama has already all but wrapped up the Democratic nomination, John Edwards call for unity was perhaps the first step along the long but necessary road toward bringing Democrats together. And however much Obama supporters may dismiss Hillary Clinton's win in West Virginia, the Edwards endorsement certainly took away any residual sting from last night's result.
So how can we show our appreciation to John Edwards for his endorsement and calls for unity?
I just received an e-mail asking for a contribution to a pilot scholarship fund established in 2005 by John and Elizabeth Edwards for high school students in Greene County, North Carolina.
From the e-mail:
The program is based on a simple promise to students: make good grades, work at least 10 hours a week, and stay out of trouble -- and the program will help pay for your first year of college. Since we launched this effort in 2005, the percentage of Greene County high school graduates attending college has increased from 54 percent to 74 percent.
I can't think of a better way both to do some good AND say "Thank You" to John Edwards. You can help a Greene County student get a college education and assist a pilot program that could be extended to other communities all over the country.
Please Contribute.
I'm in for $25. How about you?
