As a former John Edwards supporter, one thing I really really love about the man is his clarity and lack of ambiguity. Barack Obama, who's been pretty good about this sort of thing too, could learn a lot from it. As the latest example, though, sounds like he'll have to do it in some other capacity than being the head of a "Obama/Edwards" ticket. John Edwards has announced he has no interest in being vice-president in a Barack Obama administration.
"Won't happen," Edwards told NBC's "Today" program when asked if he would be Obama's vice presidential pick. "This is not something I'm interested in."
But of course, for those of us who absolutely salivate at the possibility of an Edwards justice department or (be still my beating heart) Supreme Court appointment:
Asked if he had spoken Obama about a role in his administration if he beat Republican John McCain in November, Edwards said, "Only in the most abstract way."
That doesn't sound like a "no" to me, but it does sound like he's trying not to deflect attention from the matter at hand in second guessing JRE: namely, getting the Obama nomination sealed and going straight at John McCain to secure a return of the country to the rest of us in November.
