Bush et al have shredded that "goddamn piece of paper".
Will Obama fix it? I am not even considering a truth council a la South Africa.
Will he restore a balance of constitutional power?
McCain certainly won't. I have lost confidence that Hillary would. One of my main arguments to my republican friends and workmates against Bushco's unitary executive is that do they want Hillary to have that same power. I let them argue all they want in favor of a strong executive, and then I drop the Hillary bomb on them. Not received well.
But what about Obama?
Sure he is charismatic. Sure he is of the people. I was a delegate for him at my county convention for him here in Texas. But I have seen very little speculation here wondering if when presented with the precedents of the Bush Califate, WILL HE STEP UP AND PRESENT LEGISLATION LIMITING THE POWER OF THE EXECUTIVE TO AN APPROPRIATE BLALNCE OF POWER?
This to me is THE most important issue. Will he willingly trim off the unchallenged Bush established right to abuse power in an unchecked fasion for himself and all future Presidents?
Will he voluntarily come to testify in congress whenever asked? Will he order his surrogates to testify? Will he guarantee absolute open records? Will he investigate, fire and recommend for prosecution those in his administration that commit crimes and abuse power? Will he admit mistakes publicly?
Will he draft and present to Congress the Restoration of the Consitutional Balance of Powers Act? In his first 100 days?
Will he shut down invasion of privacy programs such as phone tapping and destroy Main Core records?
Will he resore Habeus Corpus? Will he release prisoners at CIA prisions and shut them down and shut down Guantanamo and try the real terrorists still in our jails in open US Courtrooms?
Will he undo all the Bush has ruined, or will he hold some close to his chest, and not be able to resist the corruption of near absulute power that has ruined our nation for these last years?
What do you think?
I have hope.
I trust, but I also want to verify.
These are the questions to ask them in the general election debates.
If he is true, McCain will turn to dust and blow away.
If he is not, I will be sad.
