Hitting the airwaves right now is the story that Israel and Syria are in peace talks moderated by Turkey. These talks have been going on for a year or so.
Israel, Syria Acknowledge Indirect Peace Negotiations
The best part of this article is the following:
David Welch, the U.S. assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs, told reporters in Washington that the U.S. was kept informed by Turkey and Israel of the talks though wasn't doing any direct mediation.
The US knew about this, presumably for some time now. And yet just last week Mr. Bush delivered his comments before the Knesset in Israel about appeasement that set off heated comments between Obama and McCain. Wasn't Syria previously labeled as a state sponsor of terrorism / terrorists?
Follow me over the split before my head explodes:
Syria is a sponsor of terrorists.
Talking to terrorists / states that sponsor terrorists is appeasement.
Appeasement is bad and makes you a Hitler lover.
Israel is talking to Syria.
Talking to Syria is appeasement.
Israel is appeasing Syria.
Israel loves Hitler.
Okay, I think I've got it now. It all makes sense.
Do you think the members of the Isreali government that were present for Mr. Bush's speech and knew of these negotiations were nodding in agreement when he uttered those words or were thinking "what an imbicile"?
The hypocricy and idiocy of Mr. Bush is boundless. It's truly a skill to launch a thinly vailed political attack against the Democrats in the middle of an election cycle while simultaneously insulting your closest allies.
Of course, that assumes he knew what he was talking about. The thought that he has no idea of what is going on might just be scarier. Oh wait...
