No, I’m not talking about President or Vice President. But how can the party get Clinton and her supporters to get behind Obama for the general election?
There are two important roles opening soon that can be more important than the Presidency - roles that Clinton could fill.
Edward Kennedy has done more for this nation in his role as a Senator than he likely would have done as President. Had he won in his 1980 bid, he would have been President no longer than 1988. Look what he has done as a Senator in the 20 years hence.
Senator Clinton could take the Kennedy mantel and run with it. They are concerned about many of the same issues - heath cares and civil rights.
Several members of the Supreme court will likely retire during the next administration. Obama could agree to appoint Clinton to the first opening. That should get her support and that of her supporters.
The Supreme Court appointment could be a real winner. First this is for life - not a mere 4-years with a possible 4-year renewal. Second, it makes salient the importance of this election as it relates to the Supreme Court. If there is one thing that will convince Clinton supporters to help Obama, it is the fear of who McCain might appoint to the Supreme Court and the fate of legal abortion.
