I consider myself very lucky to live where my senators and congressman are Democrats. All three are Super Delegates that endorsed Hillary Clinton early in the primary calendar. I understand these endorsements. In fact, I didn’t decide on who I would support until I was driving to the caucus. Today I faxed each a letter asking them to change their endorsement. Here is that letter.
The letter:
Dear Super Delegate (Murray, Cantwell, Inslee):
My understanding is that there is one purpose for having Super Delegates involved in the process of selecting the Democratic Candidate for President of the US. That purpose is to make certain that the Democratic nominee is electable in the general election. Unfortunately, our nominating process has come to the place where Hillary Clinton cannot win and her continued efforts to deny this reality are hurting and diminishing the electability of our likely nominee.
I appreciate the qualities of Hillary Clinton and the contribution she has made to our party. I respect her tenacity and drive. I understand why you would endorse her for President. I appreciate the commitments of mutual support that must exist between you and Hillary Clinton. However, it is time for you to be responsible for your role as Super Delegate and protect the electability of whoever is the nominee of the Democratic party. Hillary Clinton’s current actions cannot win her the nomination and can ONLY damage the electability of our nominee.
I am asking you to change your endorsement in order for you to fulfill your responsibility to assure the electability of the Democratic Presidential nominee. I know that what I ask will be very difficult for you to do. If you cannot see your way clear to change your endorsement, would you consider removing yourself from the list of Super Delegates because of the inherent conflict between the one responsibility of the Super Delegate and the nature of your committed relationships.
Thank you in advance for considering these thoughts.
Please consider sending your own letter to the Super Delegates in your state. Here is the list of Super Delegates.
