Hey KOSSACKS. As I've become acquainted with the community here at daily Kos, I've learned that this is a group of people that are not only intelligent, witty, and smart, but also caring.
I've seen, more than once, an open thread ranting about McSame or Dark Lord Cheney and then see a comment about someone losing a friend or relative, or looking for help in some other way. Kossacks seem to always know the right thing to say.
Please read on below the break...
I am a drama teacher. Recently, a rising 8th grade student was stricken by cancer. This student is one of the most bright, energetic, cheerful, and promising children I've ever taught. She is a celebrated athlete, dancer, and actor and a fantastic person. We found out about her cancer just last week. Her mother is a single mom and she will, of course, need to halt her work (she runs two businesses) for a time to take care of her daughter.
Our school is very small. The circle of support we have to pull from is, likewise, tiny. Our community is not wealthy either, and many of the parents and teachers who care for this student do not have the wherewithal to help.
I am looking for Kossacks who might know how to bring some relief to this family. There is a website already set up for the student, but out of concern for their privacy I will not post it here. I will however, leave my e-mail address and those who might be able to help can contact me at:

One of the things that would really help her is to get a laptop (she wants a pink flamingo dell). That way she could start blogging about her recovery, keep in contact with her friends and classmates, and keep her mind occupied during the long hours in the hospital. If any of you have access to such a laptop and are either, a.) no longer using it, or b.) could get one from dell for her, then I cannot express how much joy and what a lift of spirits it would be for this student.
Thanks for your help,
Batensmack
