Today I attended the Nebraska Douglas County Democratic Convention, and I got FIRED UP AND READY TO GO.
I was elected an Obama Alternate Delegate for Legislative District 09 to the state convention later this month, and was also elected to the Douglas County Democratic Central Committee for LD 09.
We just finished paying off both cars (neither a hybrid, but both high mpg compacts) and decided to celebrate with a round of donations.
I'd love to see anyone match me for these great candidates!
More after the break:
I started out by becoming a monthly donor to the Douglas County Democratic Party. We'll keep making small monthly donations through the 2010 mid-terms, at which point I hope to be able to increase the amount, and keep on giving.
After arriving home and chatting with Mrs X, we discussed additional candidate donations. Why not just round out the donations by giving away the rest of the car payment?
So, Scott Kleeb, who gave a fiery speech on the convention floor, got 50.00 as soon as the MacBook Pro was also fired up and ready to go. For those who have see the ads for Scott, click and give if you're able. He's a great candidate, and would give Nebraska two Democratic Senators.
Shortly thereafter, I had made an account on Jim Esch's site, and donated some time and another 50.00. We are also offering up our house for Esch fundraising events. It's a nice old Arts & Crafts home in Midtown Omaha with so-so parking but plenty of room for a party and a stocked bar. Jim also had a good speech at the convention. He's the man, and also worth a short burst of Visa love. He's competing against Lee Terry, one of the biggest Bush rubber-stamps in Congress.
Finally, being kind of jealous of all the nifty T-shirts at the convention, I went online to the other Big O (fellow Omaha residents insert groan here) and got myself a nice schwanky shirt, a couple buttons and a yard sign, and rounded the donation up to sixty bucks.
I'm really quite stoked about the prospect of picking up an electoral vote for Obama from Omaha (like Maine, we split electoral votes in Nebraska), and getting Jim and Scott into their respective houses. We need them to proverbially get those houses in order.
So my challenge is not to match my donations, but to give whatever you can to these three great candidates. And, if you live in Douglas County, consider a donation to the DCDP.
And finally, I'd like to thank all the Hillary supporters today who were sporting "Hope" and Obama stickers and buttons today.
United we stand, and all that good stuff!
