Steve Young, running for Congress in CA-48, was able to raise the money for a survey to see how he's stacking up against Bushicon John Campbell (see previous diary entry).
Word is, like Sanchez unseating Republican nutcase Bob Dornan before him, he's got a shot. If you're not in his district and can't make the fundraiser, please consider sending him some money anyway.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd like to not only win in November, I want to fulfill Rove's prophecy that Bush would install one-party hegemony for a long time to come -- except that party will be the Democrats!

My Friend,
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
We raised the money, by the deadline, to pay for our poll! The pollster is already preparing the poll and our goal is begin the poll within 2 weeks.
There are “experts” who say, “You can’t win, you are peddling false hope.” But here's what I know. I know that when people say we can't overcome all the big money and influence, I think of the people who made small contributions and large sacrifices this past month. I raised more money than any Democratic candidate has in this district. When I hear cynical talk that this is a Republican district I think of the many people who have stepped up as neighborhood volunteers to organize and outreach, I think of the many people who have come to my office to attend our precinct organizing training, I think of the many, many people who have opened their homes to invite their neighbors to meet me, and it continues. Don't tell me change can't happen.
A poll is the first step toward unseating a Republican who believes it's all right for lobbyists to dominate congress – that they are just part of the Washington landscape. Lobbyists’ undue influence is a big problem with Congress today. This election is our chance to say that we are not going to let lobbyists steal our government. It’s time to end “politics as usual.”
I oppose the idea that it's okay to say anything and do anything to win an election. But this is what's wrong with elections. This is why people have lost trust in our government. I want to give voters a reason to believe again. It’s time to restore trust in our government.
In the end, we oppose more than the ingrained and destructive habits of Washington. This is a battle in our own hearts and minds about what kind of district we want and how hard we're willing to work for it. This election is about the past versus the future. It's about whether we settle for the same divisions and distractions and drama that passes for Orange County politics or whether we reach for a politics of common sense and innovation, a politics of shared sacrifice and shared prosperity.
Yes, I can win this election. There is no force on earth that can prevent an idea whose time has come. Yes, we can seize our future. I have vision of a Democratic majority in the 48th district, and I want to serve. It’s time to restore trust in our government. I have realistic solutions for Orange County. I will work to protect the middle class. Out of many we will be one! Where we meet cynicism and doubt and fear and those who tell us that we can't, I will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of the American people in three simple words: Yes, we can.
Please join me at my Campaign Kick-Off on June 20, 2008. We have reserved the Laguna Hills Community Center. You can read about the details and sign up on line at STEVE'S KICKOFF.
Thank you, for contributing and helping me. I love you.
