Not using 'breaking' except in response to what is happening to the hearts of many families tonight in the eastern Nebraska, western Iowa area. This area has been under tornado warning for almost 4 hours and there are reports of multiple funnel clouds all over the area.
From Lincoln, NE, on east past Council Bluffs, IA.
Now reports that a Tornado has hit a BoyScout camp in Little Souix Iowa with four confirmed dead at this time and multiple injuries. 80-90 kids and adult supervisors were there.
Just days after getting hit by two tornadoes in the dead of the night, we are having another night of watching and praying.
Forgive my spelling or other errors as I am trying to get this up soon and it is my first entry.
CNN and others are now posting the news but it is not good and I pray it does not get any worse.
I was born and raised in this region and witnessed the 1975 Tornado that destroyed a good portion of midtown Omaha.
33 years ago night time tornado's were a rare event, at least in my memory. This year alone I've noted many nighttime events just here in the Midwest.
It also seems to me that there has been an up-tick in non-traditional season tornado activity.
Can this be attributed to climate change, personally I believe so. I have been trying to do some quick research as I write this, but have had limited luck.
They are now saying this storm activity will go until midnight. This is heading east and north with central Iowa bracing for more rain and weather that they do not need at this time.
After seeing these past few weeks and noting the changes over the past decades I suggest everyone be prepared for severe weather and whatever special regional problems you may have.
So the best thing is to be prepared, no matter where you live.
UPDATE: As noted below another post is already up on this. Sorry - did not mean to double up on this.
UPDATE: 2130 hrs - original reports of injuries at scout camp were originally 40-50 then dropped to about 6, now reporting again that about 40 injured and fatalities are have remained at 4. 96 boys and some adults at camp, but almost all buildings were flattened.
