That seems to be a message the Republicans want to perptuate this November.
In a strange exchange between former Maryland Governor (and hoping to be Governor again someday) Bob Ehrlich and a caller on his radio talk show this week, the Governor seemed to imply, in agreeing with a caller, that should Obama get elected, we will get some sort of civil war between the Black Panthers and the KKK.
Seriously. If this is Republican thinking, no wonder we've been in the tank in this country for 8 years...
Check it out:
Dee (Female Caller): "I think that if he (Barack Obama) is elected President that you will have all these people coming out of the woodwork - the militants, the Muslims, the Black Panthers - and then on the white side you will have the Ku Klux Klan with the skinheads. I mean they will be empowered because they will be, all these people will be emboldened with all this hate. And I don’t see how that’s going to heal this county because, huh, this is what we’ll have to deal with. "
Mr. Ehrlich: "Dee, I wish I could clone you. I wish I could clone you (laughter). I know it’s illegal."
Ehrlich's wife piled on to the praise, saying the caller was an "informed voter":
Mrs. Ehrlich: "You are an informed voter, which is what we were talking about, you have gotten into specifics."
Specifics? SPECIFICS?!? How about all out fear-mongers SMEARS? Because that is what it sure seems like to me.
This is what the Republicans are left with:
* They can't argue the issues.
* They can't argue with Obama's appeal.
* They can't argue against the national mood.
* They can't argue McCain is the better candidate.
* They can't argue against the failures of the Bush era.
So what they are left with is, "Elect Obama, and a civil war will tear this country apart."
Fear and smear.
That's what they are reduced to at this point. Attack hope with fear.
No wonder Ehrlich lost in 2006. Get ready for even bigger losses in 2008, Bob.
