And, on a simple human level, celebrating the love and joy between Killer of Sacred Cows and his beautiful new husband. This is what the struggle for marriage equality is really all about, isn't it?
"There is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved." - George Sand
Many of you will have seen Killer of Sacred Cows' diary on the rec list, CA Marriage Equality: From The Inside (I'm MARRIED!!!) UPDATE: PHOTOS!. Well, to make a long story short, IndySteve offered his congratulations and asked, almost in passing, where the honeymoon was to be and received this reply:
No honeymoon (7+ / 0-)
We can't afford one, being starving students.
But that doesn't matter... every day together will be a honeymoon. :)
Killer must not have realized that it's dangerous to tease a bleeding heart liberal like that. Touched and stirred to action, Kossack elder IndySteve posted his own diary, HELP send Killer (of Sacred Cows!) on a honeymoon!. The title says it all but here's a quote:
Those of us who are married know how important it is to start out with with a passionate week of wedded bliss somewhere romantic! Killer of Sacred Cows and his new spouse are poor students too proud to ask for gifts so they too can experience this rite.
Help out with a suggested gift of $10 or whatever you can afford, and I'll make sure this is sent to them to go on a honeymoon when they find the time. 100 people sending $10 will surely do it. But whatever we raise will be welcomed, I'm sure. Then post your gift with marriage wishes and insights for a happy union.
Go there. Please donate. Share in and help spread the joy of today and let's give those crazy kids a proper honeymoon!
And for those of you with a little mojo burning a hole in your pocket, KentuckyKat posted a follow-up, pointer diary, Supporting a fellow Kossak. Good behavior should be rewarded, as the Baby Blue Cherub likes to say, and tips would be appreciated. After a long, hard primary, it's nice to be reminded that the way that people here step up to shoulder part of the load is truly one of the beauties and wonders of this place.
UPDATE -- As lgmcp has pointed out in the comments, marriage equality needs protecting. So share the joy and save the joy from those who would seek to destroy the precious new bonds formed by countless loving couples in California: Donate to Equality California and help fight the killjoys' November ballot initiative.
