Finally we have a House working in bipartisan for the better of the people. When they make up their minds, they can do their job in 30 minutes. Wow! The revision to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) passed by the House. It includes immunity for telephone companies that aided President Bush's warrantless wiretapping program after Sept. 11.
McCain, Nancy and Steny. Steny, Nancy, McCain. United at last. Finally working together. What friends.
But did you know...
As Newsweek's Mark Hosenball and Michael Isikoff reported in September 2007:
"The nation's biggest telecommunications companies, working closely with the White House, have mounted a secretive lobbying campaign to get Congress to quickly approve a measure wiping out all private lawsuits against them for assisting the U.S. intelligence community's warrantless surveillance programs. ...
"Among the players, these sources said: powerhouse Republican lobbyists Charlie Black and Wayne Berman (who represent AT&T and Verizon, respectively) ... "
And who are these powerhouse Republicans? Lobbyists Charlie Black and Wayne Berman who represent AT&T and Verizon.
Black and Berman, were working in the presidential campaign of John McCain. His campaign is influenced by lobbyists? I had no idea!
The Boston Globe described Berman as "a senior McCain adviser" in April 2007, while the New York Times cited Black's role in the campaign in July of that year.
What does this unity mean for me? I want to thank them for saving Verizon and ATT from expensive litigation. I know they weren't covering their ass. They were protecting me. Can you imagine how much money they would incur in legal fees? The cost would have been transferred to me, a loyal custumer. Can't have my monthly bills increase. I need my iphone.
What about the warrantless spying? They weren't spying on me. I'm a loyal consumer. I shop until I drop. Now if I only had $400 to buy myself a cute Diane Von Furstenberg dress from Neiman Marcus.
What about citizens arrest? I've never been arrested. Anyone who gets arrested probably deserves it. There's this guy with long hair. Takes walks daily. He always carries a black trash bag. Sure looks suspicious to me. Think I'll call the FBI or the Border Patrol. What about rendition and torture? They probably deserved it.
What about the 4th Amendment? Tear it up, don't need it. If we are responsible citizens, obey the government, do as we are told, we have nothing to fear. Mexico's government is an excellent model. As for the free speech one? Needs to be amended- too many "fucks" on Kos.
What about The criminals: Bushco? There's nothing you and I can do about it. Let it go. Bush will vacation in his Paraguay estate. Darth Cheney will work as a CEO, Yoo and Garcia will teach at Stanford. Maybe President Obama can use his FISA POWERS to spy on Limbaugh, Colter and my Republican brother-in-law. They need to spy on Bill. Is it true about the women? Got to see those pics.
McCain, the lobbyist and I express our most sincere thanks to Nancy, Steny and the Democratic House. Now if they could lower the price of gas. Dying to go to Hawaii.
