I was flipping through my usual web pages at lunch and I came across this little gem on Yahoo.
Apparently the writer (David Freddoso) and the publisher (Marjory Ross of Regnery Publishing) are teaming up again to "swift boat" Obama as they did with Senator Kerry.
I really don't have all that much of a problem if someone wants to write a book about one of the candidates, as long as it is factual and tells both sides of the story. I have a lot of trouble believing, however, that this book is going to do either.
The publisher was quoted as saying,
"I think it’s critically important that the country gets a clear and honest view of who is running and what they stand for — warts and all."
While I agree that the American public has a right to know everything about the candidates, I don't believe Ms. Ross is really acting in the best interest of the American public. If she were, she would be publishing an equally tell all book about Senator McCain. She may respond that since he's been in public service for so long we already know everything about him. While that might have some truth, a book that chronicles Senator McCain and his lobbyist friends, his first marriage, his affair with Cindy, and his temper might help to remind the American public just who he is.
As for the writer, I'm sure he is ready to be just as fair as the publisher. The author will apparently
probe Obama’s ties to more radical Chicago figures including the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, his former pastor at Trinity United Church of Christ, and William Ayers, the Hyde Park resident and former Weatherman
. Won't that be fun.
Finally, the publisher notes,
"He’s the No. 1 most liberal member of the U.S. Senate, and nobody has really examined his record,"
. If I remember correctly, only one survey had Obama listed as the most liberal senator and most don't have him anywhere close to that.
So it looks like the fun is beginning. This "must read" is scheduled to be out in early August.
