I know this is hard to believe.
But I think his reasoning for both his "Pacman" Jones statement and his Rutgers statement of last year have more to do with his declining popularity, terrible ratings, and declining quality of his show.
I hope that opening statement comes as no surprise to you.
Again we wake up or go to sleep with reports of Don Imus saying something ridiculous that could be construed as racist or, more likely, just stupid.
While I don't buy Imus' explanation that "Pacman" Jones is being targeted because he is black; mainly because Mr. Jones has proven time and again that he has an inability to behave in a socially acceptable manner. I don't think Imus was trying to make a racist remark. In reality, I think he allowed to insinuation of racism to creep in so that he did create a certain amount of controversy.
The fact is, his ratings suck, his show has no life and he has probably reached the end of his line as a viable news figure.
And by drawing himself into a controversy, he is able to extend his shelf life, bring about attention to himself and cause a hop in his ratings.
I really believe that is all there is to it.
