Will someone please tell Barack Obama that he’s aiming way too low when it comes to energy policy? We need a big, bold plan that gets us beyond oil dependency FAST – not in that always promised 25 or 50 years -- but in this decade. We need a President who will shoot for the moon.
Americans are scared. They know we’re in big trouble. They know our economy is teetering on the brink .... our environment is teetering on the brink ... their ability to make it to the next paycheck is teetering the brink.
Sorry, Barack, but wind turbines and biofuels aren’t going to cut it. Faith-based initiatives and volunteerism are going to save us either. Given the alternatives you've offered, no wonder off-shore drilling is starting to resonate.
We need a President who will do for American energy policy what JFK did for the space program .... What Bill Gates did for information technology. Remember going to the moon "in this decade"? Remember a computer on every desk and in every home "in this decade"? We need an end to dependence on oil "in this decade."
Go ahead, shoot for the moon. Commit this nation to replacing cars powered by gasoline engines (technology over a hundred years old) with clean-burning hydrogen cells in this decade. It can be done. The technology exists. Honda is already producing hydrogen driven cars.
Take the money Bush-McCain want us to spend guarding Iraqi oil fields for Exxon and spend it on a crash government-led program to switch the entire fleet of American cars to 21st Century technology. Be the real agent of change – the President who saved the world from global warming --- who saved the U.S. economy from melt-down – who rescued the American public from being held hostage to big oil. If the U.S. has no further interest in exploiting (and invading) the Mid-East, you may even simultaneously win the bogus "War on Terror."
Use your powers of oratory to inspire the way JFK did. Rally a new generation. Lead a nation waiting to be shown a new direction.
