Caught a video of conseva-Brit Christopher Hitchens being voluntarily waterboarded for a Vanity Fair story. His comments in the video are chilling, especially considering his prior support for the evil that is being done in the name of the good ol' red, white and blue. Or as he described the Iraq War a couple of years ago....a war to be proud of. Link and more to follow.
Perhaps the most striking thing about the video is that there is not much to it. It is short. There is no screaming or wailing by Hitchens. Nothing at all like the torture chambers in the cinema, complete with an iron maiden and the rack. It is surely the banality of evil on screen.
But to hear Hitchens' comments, it was certainly one of the worst experiences of his life. And it merely looks like 2 guys watering a houseplant for about 10 seconds. They don't even douse him with the water. Watch the video, it's not particularly scary or disturbing to observe. However, being the victim of this type of torture is quite another matter. Nightmares still, says Hitchens. http://www.vanityfair.com/...
While Hitchens does say that after 10 seconds of this torture, he would have given up anyone, he finally says what many here and on other progressive blogs have said for years... What if you have no information? What if you're the wrong guy? Most likely, you go insane, or something close.
