OK, ick: FISA, faith-based programs, big military, death penalty, etc.
With that out of the way, here's 3 reasons to still vote for Obama, even if you have to hold your nose to do it:
- He'll still end the war sooner than McCain. Hopefully, he will end it in 2009 like he promised. Come on, this is the main reason he's the Democratic nominee. If Hillary had been against the war from the beginning, I think she would have won. He has to keep this promise, even if he disappoints on everything else. He has to. Seriously. He can't go back on this, can he?
- He'll still be the first black president, no matter what else he does, and that fact alone will move this country forward. Once we have a black president, all of the tired old hateful arguments about race will change, because they'll start from a different premise. And that change won't be able to be undone by him or anyone else.
- Actually, I can't think of a third reason. So if those two aren't enough for you, I guess you can stay home on election day. Just don't vote for McCain, I could give you a hundred reasons NOT to vote for him.
If you can think of a third reason, please let me in on it.
