The same task that faced Kerry and Gore. Either the American People figure this out-or they don't. In a hundred year perspective, it may be best if McCain does win and we continue and worsen our major economic turmoil. Of course, the prospect of a McCain administration trying to manage an economic crisis is as terrifying as the efforts of the current administration to bandage up the woundsthat they have inflicted on our future economic well being. The slim chances we have to avoid disaster, to me seem to revolve around the American People waking up to the deep and serious problems we are facing.
For us to survive and reestablish a constitutional democracy, it needs to be clear to the American People who has strapped us in masse to this waterboard. A disturbing scenario would be for Osama to buy into the argument of the McCain camp that McCain would be helped by an attack on our soil. I don't believe it will help him if there is an attack. However, if Osama feels that his agents will soon be out of power if he doesn't act, it could encourage him to make a large effort to kill Americans on our soil.
In my opinion this would frighten the general population but could be a huge miscalculation. OK, OK, twice I have given the voters too much credit, but only once if we admit that Gore really won. I am hopeful that we have had so much lying and corruption by a Republican Administration that an effort by Al Quaida to hit us will point out the lack of trust the American People have in anyone that would hug GWB.
So the "imaginary" economic problems are only one leg of a three legged stool of potential disaster. The second leg is that "imaginary" global warming problem that is most likely now past it's tipping point. Our great leader has literally "blown off" the world on any help we will give with this issue. As long as enough info gets through so that the voters realize who's at fault here it could result in no one but Rush and Hannity still singing from the old songbook. Maybe we need an ad with McCain saying why he supported George Bush's environmental policies. Given his propensity for shooting his mouth off, I'm sure the moron has said something like that in the not so distant past.
And then as mentioned above, the final leg being our disastrous GWOT. if we attack Iran, or if OBL attacks us, or if we end up in an Israeli initiated disaster, I do hope the voters can cut through the smoke and mirrors and can identify the actors and the philosophies that could bring us $10/gallon gas or worse.
Listening to faith-based theorists in all of these areas seems to have balanced us on this shaky, shaky stool. Will one of these legs clearly fail by November. You know something the people could understand like maybe all of the sea ice will be gone from the North Pole just in time for Santa's workshop to sink into the Arctic Ocean along with all of the toys the children would have received. That should be a little hard to explain to the tiny tots but then their parents may take it as a hint that they have been had. Of course, I suppose three months after he takes the oath of office all of these disasters will be the fault of Obama and the Progressive Community. We are already being blamed for creating the economic problems in the heads of the American citizenry. So it would be potentially very helpful to our survival, if eighty percent of the American People clearly understood who has screwed us and why.
Here's to the Fall and to our future of global warming, economic disaster and security problems that will be the whirlwinds that we will reap for many years to come. The only hope is for the electorate to be able to connect the dots despite the media's best efforts to sow confusion and misinformation. It's going to be a bumpy, bumpy ride even with the wisdom of an Obama administration. We may be entering the 30's again. And our only hope for coming out the other end intact is for Obama to be our next Roosevelt.
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself
This may still be true but we really need to arrest and try those that have been the agents of what may be many years of suffering. If so, let's make sure that the key players get to participate in their fair share of the suffering.
