Meredith Vieira nailed McCain on the Today show this morning. Surely someone got this on tape. Updated with link, thanks to fixyourface!
Video of McCain from msnbc.com
Vieira kept asking questions about TODAY and McCain kept answering questions about two years ago. He filibustered and hummed and generally came off like a tool.
She hit him:
- On his negative ad accusing Obama of not holding hearings on Afghanistan while he himself had missed all of his committee's Afghanistan meetings
- His past admission that he needs a "learning curve" for economic issues after he's criticized Obama for needing a learning curve on international affairs.
- Phil Gramm's "nation of whiners" comment.
She didn't even let him get off on a tangent when he started going negative on Obama for his lack of support for THE SURGE.
There must have been more. I missed the first half because I was channel surfing and just stopped because I saw McCain talking, but he was already sounding defensive by the time I got there.
McCain's response to all this? "THE SURGE WORKED!!!! OBAMA DIDN'T SUPPORT THE SURGE AND THE SURGE WORKED!!!" It was hilarious. My 65 year-old Republican mother was watching and said "Why's he talking about the surge when she asked about Afghanistan?" And "he just said that! Why does he keep saying the same thing over and over again?" If this is any indication, I can't wait for the debates.
Please tell me someone out there DVRed this and can put it up on YouTube? Link here:
THE SURGE WORKED!!! THE SURGED WORK!!!
Let's hope this is a sign that the MSM is finally getting ready to call McCain on his crap!
