From Politico:
After driving a hard bargain, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is now taking credit for pulling President Bush's "chestnuts out of the fire" in winning House approval of a landmark home mortgage bill expected to clear Congress this weekend.
"We pulled the president's chestnuts out of the fire," Pelosi told Politico. "Without the Democratic votes, he would have had no bill."
Huzzah, Madame Speaker, have a cigar! You abdicated your responsibility to Henry Paulson to draft a bill that instead of focusing assisting beleaguered borrowers instead focused on bailing out Fannie and Freddie -- draping the burden once again on the backs of middle class taxpayers -- and now you want a sticker and a lollipop for making life easier for George W. Bush?
Let me let you in on a secret. It's not George W. Bush's chestnuts who are in the fire. It's your constituents' chestnuts who are in the fire, you fucking ninny.
And while you're peacocking to the Politico about how a lame duck, criminal Republican administration owes you, the little people will just have to continue to suck it.
What are you thinking?
How do you imagine this accrues to your reputation or legacy in any way?
What has George W. Bush ever done to lead you to believe that you'll be able to call in this imaginary chit, this handful of beans, for anything of meaning?
Who is it you work for, Madame Speaker?
A greater disappointment I have never seen. This "Democrat" does not work for us. This "Democrat" wouldn't know a fight if a bugle blew in her ear.
