While many of you first met him at Netroots Nation this year, I met Glenn Nye about a year ago in Austin, TX. He was taking a short leave from his service in Iraq and visiting his friend Dan Grant. Dan was still in the thick of his primary race for TX-10, and had come to the North By Northwest Democrats meeting with his buddy in tow.
Those of you who know Dan probably know his more reserved exterior, but this meeting was different. He was just excited to have Glenn in town. He told me that Glenn was considering running in his hometown when he got done in Iraq, and that he was behind him 100%. Considering how much Dan inspired me, I was curious to know the guy who Dan was so jazzed about.
As I've gotten to know Glenn, I have not been disappointed.
For 24 hours straight we're raising money on DailyKos for Democrat Glenn Nye, running in VA-02. Karl Rove is raising money for his opponent, Bush-loving incumbent Thelma Drake. Let’s do our part to counteract Karl Rove and help elect Glenn Nye to Congress!
I've watched Glenn pack boxes at Netroots For The Troops:
I swapped stories with him about wandering around carrying heavy things in hot weather (me: playing the tuba and marching on asphalt in the Texas summer, Glenn: in Iraq wearing full body armor). I was astonished at how well he could relate such disparate circumstances. But I was also struck by how much it meant to him to have been there. This is someone whose sense of duty is profound, whose work ethic is monumental, and whose talent and intelligence will be a force to be reckoned with in Congress.
Give to Glenn!
I once vowed that my money would stay in Texas. I broke that vow, gladly, for Glenn's sake. Help put this man in Congress. You won't regret it.
