Howdy, Kossacks in the greater New York metropolitan area. Tonight we're having a meet-up in honor of the visits by captainlaser and myself to town. I'm posting this in casperr's stead as she is indisposed.
Important!
Due to the potential for rain tonight, we have a two-part plan. Take down all the info and act accordingly.
Fair-Weather Plans:
Where: New York Milkshake Company
342 E. 47th Street (bet. 1st and 2nd in Dag Hammarskjold Plaza)
When: 6:30 p.m. start time
Other: The phone number there is 347-535-1918
Foul-Weather Plans:
Where: Keats
842 2nd Ave (bet. 44th and 45th)
When: If/when rain reaches critical mass.
Other: The phone number there is 212-682-5490
To add a bit of local flavor, I will note that I am posting this from the Apple store on 5th Avenue.
More below.
Weather Decisions
The forecast for today predicts a 40% chance of rain, with scattered T-storms in the evening. Maybe. While we could ask poblano to analyze the chance that this poll of Mother Nature is indeed accurate, the easier thing to do is to make a contingency plan in case of rain.
So, while you should plan to go to the NY Milkshake Co., if the weather is really bad head over to Keat's. Write down the phone numbers and addresses of each!
We will only decamp for Keats if a critical mass of people find the weather too unbearable. Unbearableness will probably be measured in volume and speed of water falling from the sky. If you're worried, write down both numbers, and call each and ask if a group of raucous bloggers is still there. Call the Milkshake place first, as that's our primary plan. N.B.: the Milkshake Co. will close if weather is bad enough.
We should be a pretty sizeable group, so finding us shouldn't be too big of a challenge. If you get confused, you can ask for Katherine (that would be me) or "the blogger party."
Fair Weather Plan: NY Milkshake Co.
The NY Milkshake Co. is notable because they not only serve booze, but milkshakes, too. They can do them vegan with soy, or with yogurt. Healthy! And they have grilled cheese, in a multitude of cheese varieties. It's also right across from the UN. No confirmation about whether Boutrous Boutrous Ghali will show. They also accept credit cards if you're That Guy who never has cash.
Foul Weather Plan: Keats Bar
If it rains, look for us at Keat's, a neighborhood-type place that has a full menu. Karaoke starts there at 10:00 p.m., and since we're starting at 6:30, plenty of you should be drunk enough by then to serenade us.
Finally, even though I am hitting "publish" on this baby at the Apple store right now, I wrote it very laaaate last night and was feeling sufficiently inspired to add a photo to this diary. Here's what someone special was thinking about during his big address to Netroots Nation.
I know you feel the same way. See you tonight!
