I posted a diary a couple of days ago with this request but I guess my timing is uniquely bad. I also decided that I lumped too much into it so I'm going to break it out to two separate diaries (today and tomorrow).
I've included my Email address in my profile if you can help!
Do you shop at Star Market or Shaws Market?
If you do you can help a worthy charity that I've looked into very thoroughly. You can learn more about them by visiting their website which is Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, Inc.
I was told about this program through a friend of mine who donates to them regularly through matching funds at her place of work. 100% of the funds they collect are donated in the form of grants to the researchers in Boston to help stamp out preventable blindness.
These grants help a number of ways:
Are you aware that the National Institutes of Health do not fund research that hasn't already been 'seeded'? I never new that! Using seed money that is provided through Mass Lions Eye Research, these Boston researchers have made great progress (you can find their links on the website for Mass Eye Research).
All the funds are given from Mass Eye Research to those who submit strong proposals and offer full reports back to them. The board of Mass Lions Eye Research is fully staffed by volunteers (you can see the members of the board on the website. None of them receive any reimbursement for their services to the board.
So you're wondering how you can help?? It's simple! If you shop at Star Market or Shaws Markets and you collect a register receipt when you shop, we'll take them and they will donate 5% of your receipt (less tax, alcohol, milk and tobacco products) to Mass Lions Eye Research.
I will even send you the envelope with postage to mail them to me! 100% of the funds that are collected through this drive will be used to donate to Eye Research. $0.00 are used for administrative expenses. I'm even willing to pay the postage to get these receipts to me.
So do your little part to keep junk out of the landfills and help a worthy charity at the same time! Thanks for reading!
