By now, I'm sure you have all read about the Chinese deciding to go with a prettier 8 year old girl to lip sync the national anthem rather than go with the perfectly adorable girl who won a national contest. What was wrong with the original girl...she had crooked teeth.
I'm pretty outraged about this. A 8 year old girl was just denied her heart's desire because she has crooked teeth. What kind of message does that send. It sends the message that if you are pretty, things will just be better for you. I am not however blaming the Chinese on this one, I think they picked it up from...
US!!! Us as in the USA. I think we are number 1 in taking pretty girls that do absolutely nothing and valuing them 100x more than anyone else.
So here is my list of things that either make you pretty or are denied you if you are not...
I'm not against makeup. I'm against anyone expecting me to wear any.
I'm not against Paris Hilton. I can be outraged last week when I logged onto political websites that were all over how great Paris response to McCain was. Are you kidding me? Paris Hilton didn't come up with any of this, she just knows how to read off a teleprompter.
I'm not against Barbie, I'm against Barbie being the only doll you ever buy your daughter. Don't get me started on the skanky Bratz dolls.
I'm not against Botox. Feel free to pump whatever chemicals in your face to stave off Father Time.
I'm not against strippers. I'm against it being one of the highest paying jobs a non educated woman can get.
I'm not against Miss America. I'm just wondering what a bikini has to do with American values and education.
I'm not against any of the fat, average looking string of men coming out of Hollywood today. Superbad, Knocked up...etc. I'm just wondering when Hollywood is going to produce the same with women.
I'm not against shaving my legs. I'm just wondering how my husband can possible complain about it and not take a look at his hairy armpits. And I accept that if I ever want to get laid, I have to shave these things.
I'm not against half the female population of NYC that is waiting to marry an Investment Banker. I'm against you working for a little bit and then when you got married becoming a SAHW and shopping all the time. It makes boss think that women aren't viable candidates for promotion.
I'm not against the media. I am against why we had to talk about Hillary's pantsuits and how "tired" she looked. I am against PUMA's though.
All in all I'm against making any little girl or woman feel bad about herself.
