In the next day or two, the Obama will take the innovative and brilliant step of announcing his choice for Vice President via a text message to supporters. However, many signs point to the possibility that the campaign will use this new tool to unveil what will be its most politics-as-usual step yet: that the choice for VP is Evan Bayh.
Many of us supported Obama as the Democratic nominee because of his superior judgment on the Iraq war. I know I did. Choosing one of the Democrats who was instrumental in building Democratic consensus to vote to authorize the use of force in Iraq undermines one of the central tenets of his candidacy.
There are signs that he may choose Bayh as his VP, and if he does I and many others will still fight tooth and nail to elect Obama president - there is no question of that. However, there is also a sign that the campaign is listening right now for a message about this choice. Growing a Facebook group asking that Obama not choose Bayh to 100,000 users in a day is a difficult task, but would send that message.
If you would like to see a real progressive choice for Vice President, and not a DLC epitomizing center-right Democrat who helped rush us into a disastrous war, please join this Facebook group and invite your friends.
