This is (finally) my first diary. Thanks to my son for inspiring me to at last 'test the waters'...
My son, who is a photojournalist for a Norfolk VA TV outlet, was assigned to cover an appearance today by former Governor George Allen. My son is a Navy veteran, a college graduate, and an amazing father to his two children, but he is also rather buff from frequently working out, and shaves his head to compensate for an inherited hair-line (Sorry Son - The tattoos may make it to a future diary).
He found the 'macaca guy' to be less than inspiring, and obviously still making meaningless assumptions about 'the guys behind the camera'.
Following the interview, the former guv'nor looked at me and said, "so, what position did you play..."
After a two hour back-patting press conference with a round table of Republicans and eight years of the current Republican administration, I smiled and said "boatswain's mate, third class..."
I took him a moment. He was dumbfounded..."oh...different team..."
"Yes sir," I replied...
"Blue and gray."
I walked away...
My son has already won two Emmy's for his work, but I was just as proud of him for today as for either of those.
