Has anybody seen this? And has the campaign released it to the media? (since a lot of the campaign ads aren't released to the media, maybe this one hasn't)
Imbd.com has interesting news.
UPDATE#1 & 2 below
In its daily industry news reporting, they have a stub about the Obama campaign airing a 1:30 a.m. commercial about his biography. This from imdb.com:
Coming to the screens of wee-hour television are half-hour infomercials selling not a product but the politics of Barack Obama. Advertising Age reported on its website Tuesday that the first Obama infomercial aired Sunday morning at 1:30 a.m. on the Ion Television network. The trade publication noted that the Obama campaign is referring to it as a "long-form commercial" that is mostly biographical. AdAge did not indicate whether it also included a pitch for campaign contributions; however, it did quote Evan Trace, Coo of Tns Media Intelligence's Campaign Media Analysis Group as saying, "It is a first. I guess they are going after the insomniac vote."
I've never heard about this one before. Judging from the fact that they are airing it on something called the Ion Television Network at 1:30, my guess is that they are doing test runs on it before releasing it big time on the internet and national media.
Any thoughts or sightings of the ad?
Update#1:
It seems that ION Television is what used to be Pax Tv, which had plenty of religious oriented programming, especially after midnight. So there you go.
UPDATE#2:
dqw5644 below mentioned that he saw it at 4:23 am eastern time on spike tv. He described it like this:
The ad definitely does have an infomercial quality -- lots of "testimonials" from regular folks interspersed with clips from Obama speeches at both intimate and large events -- but it feels authentic.
The ad is entirely positive and focuses on inviting people to join the movement for change. I think it's pretty effective and am very curious what the ad buy is, where it's running, etc. I don't know how many people are up watching TV at 4 in the morning, though I wouldn't think I would ever have seen something running at this time -- I really don't watch TV much at all, let alone at this hour. But these long format commercials must work and reach some audience or infomercials wouldn't exist.
