Geologists are stirring from their slumber due to serious arguments not previously brought to Anglo-American attention regarding the origin of oil.
Long thought to be the result of biological detritus, a second school of thought, discussed heavily in Russia over the last half century, proposes that oil is produced chemically, deep in the earth, and rises through fissures to near the surface.
I repeat, oil may not be a fossil fuel.
I searched for any posts here without success, but with surprise. If I am stepping on anyone, please accept my apologies. Likewise many of you may already be aware of this controversy; perhaps even bored by it.
I first learned of this through via a post by Raymond Learsy on Huffington Post with links to scientific presentations by J. F. Kenney and gasresources.net.
I offer this as a layman with no particular knowledge in this field, in hopes that someone can do a better job of helping to educate our community on the nature of this debate.
