Post partisan my ass! That MIGHT be a good theme as a campaign strategy. It MIGHT appeal to an electorate tired of the incompetent, ineffectual and just plain stupid brand of government they have been getting for the last ten years....you know, since the incredibly partisan impeachment of Bill Clinton by the Republican Congress....
It might sound ... nice ...and evenhanded and reasonable and mature and responsible and all that. But it ignores the simple and undeniable fact that since the Republicans lied, cheated and smeared (including smearing their current champion when he was running against Bush) their way into having full unfettered dominance of the government.....just about everything that could go wrong has gone wrong and the country is in sad, sorry shape.
Because of the Republicans.
Everything the Republicans has touched in the last decade has turned to crap. From the micro (life saving stem cell research) to the macro (Climate Crisis) the Republicans have had full power to implement their vision, programs and policies....and have gotten it wrong every single time.
.
So Barack may have a good strategy, as far as appealing to the mature thinking voter. But someone simply must point out the obvious. Since the Republicans have held power the country has gone to hell in a handbasket due to their partisanship, ideology based governance and pure stinking REPUBLICAN incompetence.
This election is not, and cannot be allowed to be, a referendum on Obama. This election is about throwing out the politicians who have turned America from the world leader it was before the Republicans took power, into what it is today:
Broke, ten trillion dollars in debt, in two failing wars, in a recession and a credit crisis that is getting Americans thrown out of their homes, with flat wages, high inflation and unemployment, few if any good jobs being created, our prestige, moral leadership and international reputation in tatters and with 80 percent of Americans saying we are on the wrong track.
Who put us on the wrong track?
The Republicans.
Are you better off than you were 8 years ago?
Of course not. Why?
The Republicans.
We have lost over 4000 American soldiers and spent hundreds of billions of dollars on a pointless war. Why?
The Republicans.
Is America safer from terrorist attack today? NO.
Thanks to the The Republicans.
Is there a destructive amount of partisanship in American politics? Sure there is....why?
The Republicans have made it so. Starting with the most partisan impeachment in American history, and continuing on with ridiculous stunts like the Schiavo fiasco, outing a CIA network for political revenge, politicizing the Department of Justice, Jack Abramoff's Republican corruption ring, voting against body armor for the troops serving in a war they started, the Medicare scam, lying us into the Iraq war, the Walter Reed scandal, warrantless wirtetapping, trying to destroy Social Security, torture, illegal signing statements, the housing bubble and credit collapse, a seemingly endless string of hypocrisy-ridden sex scandals, a tanking economy and four dollar a gallon gas. On whose 'watch' did this all happen? Including the attacks on 9/11 that they were repeatedly warned about?
The Republicans.
Who has brought you...through their gross incompetence in managing domestic oil markets and grotesque foreign policy of war for oil, brought YOU four dollar a gallon gas? That's right, the Republicans
This election is NOT about Barack Obama's experience or qualifications.
It's about .....the Republicans.
And WE have to hammer that home until the corporate owned, status quo supporting, John McCain worshipping media pulls their head out of...the sand...and reminds each and every voter.
Republican President George Bush and his rubberstamp Republican Congress have, pardon my French, screwed this country into the ground. They have had eight years in the spotlight with carte blanche to do whatever they want. In that time, the Republicans have created a failing America and nearly eliminated the Middle Class, their running of the government has been blatantly and inexcusably incompetent, and their policies and ideology are bankrupt. They must be removed from power for the good of the country. This election is about them, The Republicans
Jack Cafferty (h/t tristan57)in his column today gets it.
He will leave office with the country $10 trillion in debt, fighting two wars, our international reputation in shambles, our government cloaked in secrecy and suspicion that his entire presidency has been a litany of broken laws and promises, our citizens' faith in our own country ripped to shreds. Yet Bush goes bumbling along, grinning and spewing moronic one-liners, as though nobody understands what a colossal failure he has been.
I fear to the depth of my being that John McCain is just like him.
The majority of the American people get their news from the corporate owned media, the corporate owned media reads the blogs. While Obama, right or wrong, takes the high road, WE need to make sure the rest of the media sees what Cafferty is starting to see and informs the electorate. Informs them that no matter how much the Republicans want to make this election about Obama, it is really about one crucial theme.
It's The Republicans, stupid!
