The big "D" word.
Looking at HuffPo's pictures of the quartet of chicken hawk furies who are going to be McCain's chorus at the RNC Convention, I had to grab my teenage son and hug him close.
Bush, Cheney, Lieberman, Guiliani
While we are arguing about hurt feelings and not getting our act together, Putin is getting bellicose over the idiotic star wars missles, Pakistan is imploding, Georgia is crumbling, Afghanistan is getting blown up one suicide bomber at a time, and McCain is nonchalantly thinking it's just fine for us strong arm the Iraqi's for Big Oil for the next 100 years.
Hello.
DRAFT. "D" as in Dead and Desperately maimed boys.
Maybe you think I'm being an alarmist? Maybe I should trust McCain when he says that he's "not in favor" of a DRAFT.
According to The National Priorities Project
The Iraq War began to have an impact on recruiting in 2005, when the Army missed its goal for the number of recruits. In 2007, for the third year in a row, the Army did not meet its benchmark for the level of educational attainment of recruits. The percentage of recruits the Department of Defense (DoD) considers ‘high quality’ also dropped considerably. A higher percentage of recruits will drop out well before the end of the first term of enlistment, leading to further increases in spending on recruitment and training, including enlistment bonuses and pay for additional recruiters.
DRAFT.
We have already increased and then increased some more the enlistment bonuses and college fund limits. Again from the National Priorities Project:
More than $4 billion is spent annually on recruiting.
Given the immediate need for additional troops in Afghanistan (12,000 more were just sent there), exactly where are we going to get the greater numbers needed if say, Pakistan implodes (a very real possibility) leaving unsecured nukes in the region? And, maybe it's just me, but has anyone noticed that McCain seems to have a gleam in his eye when he talks about Georgia?
DRAFT.
We just got done with one guy who caused the slaughter of thousands using the world to work out his daddy issues. And, that misadventure has our military on the ropes, Now, we have another old guy trying to re-fight the Cold War by proxy quagmire he went through in Vietnam? Exactly what horrifying mischief could we and the world be in for next?
And, where will the young bodies come from to fight McCain's demons?
DRAFT.
Now, I am begging, BEGGING all Democrats to go to HuffPo and just look at the alternative. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot about Joe --- add Iran to the list.
McCain's Chickenhawk Chorus
DRAFT.
Take a good long look at their faces. Looking at those men who McCain has chosen to make his case for him, the hair on the back of my neck stood up. That is the what we will get if we don't ALL go to the polls and vote for Obama.
So, at this point, I don't care one whit whose feelings were hurt or even may still be hurt. (And, I've been one of those calling for respect and giving time ... blah, blah, blah.) And, frankly I don't care if you have to hold your nose to pull the Democrat lever this time around. It is was it is. It's time to stop thinking about our own feelings and FIGHT LIKE HELL TO SAVE OUR CHILDREN'S LIVES.
The big "D" word, folks.
And if Obama loses, because some of us stayed home (or threw a tantrum and crossed over), and my boy comes home in a box, I will not have any feelings left for "hurt feelings," because my heart will be in that box with my only child. And, I won't have ears to listen to any "I told you so's" either. Because my mind will be frozen in denial, hoping and straining to hear my boy's call of "Mama," so I'd be able to somehow get there in time to bring him safely home.
Vote Obama. Tell those chicken hawk freeks, "Hell NO, our children won't go!"
UPDATE: Well, that didn't take long. As I was writing this diary, looks like the bastard came out with it.
To the walls, folks! These bastards are NOT gonna get to murder anymore children!
