The Republican Party, true slackers when it comes to upgrading the nation’s mass transit infrastructure, have none the less been busy electrifying the tracks of American politics with all the latest innovations. Not content with a political lay of the land risking doom to those touching "the third rail" of national politics; Social Security, Republicans keep searching for a fourth rail, one selectively lethal to Democrats only. .They rolled out their earlier version for the last few national elections; the sanctification of 9/11, but it has been sagging a bit of late, as Rudy "9/11" Giuliani can testify to. The latest upgrade though is now complete. Keep your hands off the Sacred POW if you know what’s good for you.
How dare anyone (especially Democrats) accuse John McCain of anything remotely dishonorable? As McCain spokesperson Nicolle Wallace recently put it: "The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous". Got it? Being a former POW grants John McCain political absolution from all potential sins. He wasn’t actually inside the "Cone of Silence" like he promised Reverend Warren that he would be? That’s OK; McCain was a POW. He cheated on his wife? That’s OK, McCain was a POW. He was censored in the Senate for his role in the "Keating 5" scandal? That’s OK, McCain was a POW. He showed lousy judgment by pushing for a war with Iraq? That’s OK, McCain was a POW. He doesn’t even know how many houses he owns? That’s OK, McCain was a POW.
Everyone, including Bob Schieffer, knows that Barack Obama wasn’t a POW:
SCHIEFFER: "I have to say, Barack Obama has not had any of those experiences either, nor has he ridden in a fighter plane and gotten shot down. I mean...
Gen. CLARK: Well, I don't think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification
to be president.
SCHIEFFER: Really?
Gen. CLARK: But Barack is not--he is not running on the fact that he has made these national security pronouncements, he's running on his other strengths. He's running on the strengths of character, on the strengths of his communication skills, on the strengths of his judgment, and those are qualities that we seek in our national leadership..."
Obviously someone failed to give General Clark the memo. A McCain spokesperson demanded an apology from General Clark for his shocking display of ignorance in regards to the significance of being a POW. In discussing qualifications to become the President of the United States, John McCain has been a POW and Barack Obama hasn’t. That pretty much covers everything deemed relevant.
Barack Obama however obviously did get the memo and therefore he "rejected" what General Clark said. As did the Democrats last Presidential candidate, John Kerry. As long as Democrats keep cooperating, the choice for the American public come November will boil down to this; vote for first term Senator Barack Obama, or give honor to the Sacred Pow.
