"I am your brother Joseph," proclaimed Joe Lieberman to the controversial end-times pastor, John Hagee from the podium at the annual Christian’s United for Israel Conference in Washington, D.C. on July 22, 2008. For Lieberman, it was the second time in as many years that he likened the politically connected pastor to Moses. "Like Moses," stated the senator in 2007, "He's (Hagee) become the leader of a mighty multitude even greater than the multitude that Moses led from Egypt to the Promised Land."
You’re probably thinking, who cares about Hagee? He’s yesterday’s news. Think again. He and many others like him still remain very much in the political picture.
He’s best friends with Jilted Joe Lieberman.
You see, John Hagee is a "what me, worry?" kind of a guy. Eagerly awaiting the End Times, he keeps himself busy doing his level best to hasten the world’s end. He’s created his own powerful lobby, Christians United for Israel, through which he can trigger a massive action alert to pressure on congressmen and senators, all at the click of an email. World leaders take his calls and meetings. Think . . . The White House. Why, Scott McClellan says Hagee has no problems getting through to the big guns there. And then there’s McCain’s potential, if unlikely, consideration of none other than Joe Lieberman for V.P. If it weren’t so deadly serious, it would be humorous to watch Joe bounce back and forth like a ping pong ball between his two Johns. It’s a wonder he’s not dizzy. Then again, maybe he is.
The good Pastor Hagee likes to say,
"Just before us is a nuclear countdown with Iran, followed by the final battle: the battle of Armageddon . . . . The end of the world as we know it is rapidly approaching. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad. The best is yet to be."
Armageddon? The best is yet to be? These words from a man whom Joe Lieberman lovingly calls his brother?
This is insanity. If Americans from both sides of the fence can agree on one thing, shouldn’t it be this:
ANYONE WHO ADVOCATES FOR END TIMES TO HAPPEN SHOULDN’T BE ALLOWED WITHIN A MILLION MILES OF AMERICA’S FOREIGN POLICY?
